Of these cases, 17 were reported Wednesday and 46 employees were recovering from the virus, according to the department.
The proliferation of cases is stressing the department in many ways. This is especially true for men and women who are in charge of getting help from those in need.
“Our most hit areas are workgroups that have to work in close proximity to each other,” said Michael Smothers, deputy police chief. “The best example is the communication between our 911 and the dispatch center.”
A total of 131 APD employees have been quarantined because they test positive for the virus or are in close contact with someone with COVID-19.
Despite the staffing disruption, APD reports that there have been no significant changes in the ability of departments to request services or provide assistance to the general public.
