Apple registers all deleted apps along with TikTok in the US

In the midst of the TikTok shutdown, in a rare move, Apple released a statement and support document listing all the affected apps that cannot be accessed in the US. iPhone manufacturers usually don’t publish information when they block apps. In particular, other ByteDance applications, including CapCut, Lemon8 – which has been increasing in recent months – and Marvel Snap, are also part of the blocked applications. According to the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, applications developed by ByteDance Ltd. and its subsidiaries – including TikTok, CapCut, Lemon8, and others – will not be available for download or updates on the App Store for users in the United States starting January 19, 2025,” the company said. The document also highlights that people visiting the US and having the App Store set to a non-US region will not be able to update the app or purchase in-app items for the app. TikTok and ByteDace’s other apps were banned because of a bill passed last year that would have forced the company to sell short video apps or face a ban. Last week, the Supreme Court upheld the law, prompting Apple and Google to block the application by a January 19 deadline.
