Arrests Made During Cuban Demonstration – Tampa, Florida

Tampa police arrested three people in connection with a Cuban demonstration on Tuesday.

The event timeline is as follows:

At 4 pm, a large group gathered at Al Lopez Park, with a crowd initially remaining on the sidewalk.

Around 4:30 pm, another group performed at the intersection of Dale Mabry Blvd’s NB Lane. And Columbus Avenue. And I blocked the road.

At around 4:47 pm, a group in front of Al Lopez Park began blocking the road. After 5 pm, the group began marching south on Himes Avenue. Join a second group that has already blocked roads on Columbus Avenue and Dale Mabury Highway.

Just before 6 pm, the crowd was ordered to disband.

After numerous disbandment orders, the crowd turned around and marched south on Dale Mabree Boulevard. Some were on the road and some were on the median strip.

At 6:49 pm, a large group attempted to hijack the exit ramp of the I-275NB on the Dale Mabury Highway.

The TPD assisted the Florida Highway and patrols, redirecting the crowd from the I-275 exit ramp. Several were detained on several charges, including LEO batteries.

Upon exiting the exit ramp, the group remained on the Dale Mabry Highway near I-275 and under the overpass when additional decentralization orders were issued.

After 7:30 pm, the crowd began marching north on Dale Mabri Boulevard.

Some of the groups returned to Al Lopez Park to continue demonstrating, while others continued to march north on the Dale Mabry Highway, performing near MLK.

The group at Al Lopez Park broke up after 9:30 pm

Around the same time, the Dale Mabley Highway and MLK group marched south towards Columbus, where the group stayed and still remains between Dale Mabley Highway and Himes Avenue.

FHP detained several subjects during the I-275 incident. One trooper was injured in the process.

“The Tampa Police Department will continue to support all First Amendment rights to freedom of speech. We will continue to work with groups who want to hear them in a safe and secure manner.”
