Asian Business Owner Attacked in Northeast DC – NBC4 Washington – Washington, District of Columbia

Washington, District of Columbia 2021-05-05 17:06:20 –

Asian business owner attacked at his store in northeastern Washington, DC on Tuesday

Max Trading owner Chong Hu Lu said customers were angry that they didn’t allow them to open their products in the store.

The customer hit him in the face, Lou said. The attack was captured in a surveillance video.

“‘F *** You, Chinese. I hate you,” Lu said.

A surveillance video shows his wife, Cong Cong Hu, intervening and trying to help.

“I was very scared. What if a man gets hooked and has a gun or knife? I’m very scared because I don’t know what will happen,” said Hu.

Lou had to go to the hospital, where he sewed 14 stitches.

How to help

The family said the attackers had fled and were not arrested.

Lou said he wanted to see police arrested and was tired of seeing Asian Americans being attacked.

According to DC police, the investigation is ongoing and treats it as a possible hate crime.

The couple’s daughter told News4 that she asked News4 to close the store the next day for fear of her parents’ safety.

Hu and Lu said they had no choice — they still have to make a living.

“I don’t know. I couldn’t sleep all night last night,” Hu said. “Why do they treat us this way? They didn’t do anything wrong.”
