Atlanta (CBS46)-Temporary Head Coach Mike Petersen has resigned from his position in the Atlanta Dream due to health concerns.

Assistant coach Darius Taylor will soon take over the interim role.

“For health reasons that the WNBA season grind isn’t enough, I’ve decided to resign from my dream coaching mission,” Petersen said in a release sent by the team. Ownership for the Atlanta Dream players, staff, and the opportunity to be part of a great organization. ”

Petersen took over as head coach a week before the 2021 season began. The dream is 6-13 this season. Petersen moves to the role of advisor within the Dream front office.

“I’m honored to work and get to know Mike Coach,” said Dream Majority owner Larry Gottes Diener in the release. “I am grateful for his willingness to step up and take on the role of head coach this season and for everything he has done for the team. His experience and leadership will help him move to a new role. And it will continue to be beneficial to the organization. ”

Atlanta will open the second half of the season at Phoenix Mercury at 6 pm on Sunday, August 15th.
