Atlanta (CBS46)-Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms faced dozens of news cameras as her husband accompanied her to address across Atlanta on Friday.
“The decision I made after thoughtful prayer and consideration was not to seek another term as mayor,” Bottoms said.
The mayor said he first realized that he might not seek a second term in his first year in office and admitted that she hadn’t written for the city in the last three years.
“Three months after our term, there was the biggest cyberattack in the history of U.S. municipalities. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, which literally seemed to breathe air into the previous administration from the city hall,” said Bottoms. It was.
Bottoms also released a video message promoting her achievements in keeping the city running during the pandemic and her work in adding affordable homes to Atlanta.
“Leadership is about gracefully passing the baton to the next person and ending what you started with,” says Bottoms.
Critics believe her departure was the result of a surge in crime and reinstatement of APD officer Garrett Rolf, who was dismissed by the city without legal proceedings following the deadly shooting of Rayshard Brooks. ..
“I disagree with the ruling. Our position is firmly in the position of following the steps that must be followed in these emergencies. The Board of Directors has one opinion as to which is the right to oppose. I didn’t, but if I need to start over, I’ll do the same, “said Bottoms.
The mayor said he would not resign for fear of losing the election. She voted 70% favorably, saying she would win without a final vote if the elections were held today. Bottoms stated that it was a faith-based decision and what was best for the city. She said she would refund all donors who contributed to the former reelection campaign.
