Autoliv has announced plans to build a new steering wheel manufacturing plant in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
At full capacity, a 30,000 sqm / 322,000 sq ft facility could employ up to 3,000 people.
Kevin Fox, President of Autoliv Americas, said:
“This new facility, along with the Matamoros facility in Mexico, will continue to provide world-class support to our customers. This investment will increase capacity but optimize manufacturing processes at both facilities. You can also. It provides an exciting opportunity for Mexican team members. “
Fox added that the project will accelerate the company’s digitization and automation strategies, including investment in manufacturing processes.
Construction of the new facility is scheduled to begin in June of this year, and Autoliv will have a new plant in operation by January 2022. When completed, armature casting, plastic and polyurethane injection molding, leather preparation and packaging, final assembly, testing, and development.
Autoliv claims to be the world’s leading producer of steering wheels for passenger cars. There are 16 manufacturing and assembly sites and 4 technical centers around the world, producing 20m per year.
