Omaha, Nebraska — Are you frustrated or stressed? Maybe you need to pick up an ax.
Ax throwing centers are becoming more and more popular across the country, including here in Omaha. Omaha currently has three ax throwing centers around the town.
One of those centers is Q and the 111th Ax Games.
Owner Harvey Leslie says that the once esoteric sport of foresters and loggers, ax throwing, has resonated with people.
“People like to throw at targets,” he said. “It’s fun, it’s a good exercise.”
Leslie says that about 20% of his business is a group of businesses, and the rest is a group of people who go out to enjoy in the evenings and weekends. Last Saturday, a group of friends trying to hit the Bullseye took turns.
Melton came with a companion, and says sports are definitely a stress buster.
“It definitely helps get rid of frustration,” he said. “You can imagine drawing my buddy’s face on the wall and throwing an ax at him.”
Research shows that the business at the ax throwing center has grown steadily over the past three years, jumping by more than 500% and generating more than $ 200 million in revenue.
