DENVER (KDVR) – Metropolitan State University (MSU) has unwittingly underpaid 849 minimum wage workers, Denver Labor said Thursday.
Denver Labor has uncovered $ 130,442 in arrears owed to employees and is working with MSU officials to ensure restitution.
“This is the largest number of underpaid employees we have ever found in a salary survey,” Auditor O’Brien said. “These 849 employees are also students and getting them these funds when they may face other economic hardships or student loans is a real victory.
Many employees working in guidance, admissions and student activities departments have been affected, according to Denver Labor.
“This survey has been a very good job,” said Denver Labor executive director Jeffrey Garcia. “Our team’s efforts are a great example of how government and employers can work together to get money to the people who earn it. This is good news for workers right now. “
The investigation began in March after a complaint from an employee. The backlog will be returned to workers by Oct. 30, according to Denver Labor.
The city of Denver’s minimum wage is $ 12.85 an hour, higher than the state’s minimum wage of $ 12 an hour.
