Banksy unveils Ukrainian mural in Russian bombed town

The elusive British street artist Banksy painted a mural on a bombed building outside the Ukrainian capital.

On Friday night, the world-famous graffiti artist posted three images of his artwork on Instagram. A gymnast doing a handstand among the ruins of a demolished building in the town of Volodhanka, northwest of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv.

The caption reads, “Ukraine, Volodhanka.”

Along with towns such as Bucha and Irpin, Borodhanka was severely hit by Russian bombing and became a symbol of the devastation that Russia brought. Attack on Moscow From February.

The town was briefly occupied before Russian troops withdrew in April.

“This is a symbol that we are indestructible,” 32-year-old Oleksiy Savochka told AFP on Saturday of the graffiti. “And our country will not break.”

Many Banksy-style murals have popped up in and around Kyiv, leading Ukrainians to believe that an anonymous street artist may be working in the war-torn country.

Another graffiti from Borodyanka, whose origin is not confirmed by the artist, shows a boy throwing a man in a judo uniform to the ground.

This scene may refer to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is a martial arts enthusiast.

“A little boy against an old man. He’s defeated. He’s already defeated,” Ukrainian TV journalist Bogdan Machey, 30, told AFP near the painting.

“I can’t believe Banksy is here in Borodyanka,” he added.

A third mural next to an abandoned building in Irpin (also unverified by Banksy) shows a gymnast performing a ribbon routine despite apparently being injured and wearing a collar. It shows how it works.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared on Friday. Kherson “Ours” after Russia withdrew its troops from strategic southern cities.

Kherson was the first major urban hub to collapse after Putin sent Russian troops into Ukraine on February 24.
