Bar owners react to lifting COVID-19 restrictions – Lexington-Fayette, Kentucky

Lexington, Kentucky (LEX 18) — Kentucky nightlife is fully revived as a federal nightlife Mask mandate and capacity limit lifted Friday.

For Sean Ebbitt, owner of Bluegrass Tavern, this means his business, which had to keep adapting for the past 15 months, is back to normal.

“As the days go by, you will notice such a decrease in the level of stress,” he said.

Maskman dates for vaccinated people had already been eased, but Evid said returning to 100% capacity would have the greatest impact on his bar.

“Financially, not having to worry about people’s spacing is definitely a big boost, so that’s definitely an advantage there,” he said.

Customers also enjoy a more relaxed environment.

“It’s good to go out and you don’t have to worry about all the restrictions such as masks,” said Richard Packet, who traveled to a Lexington friend for a weekend trip. “Just have a good time as you should have.”

According to Evid, returning to normal means that you can make decisions based on the public places you feel comfortable with.

“Overall, it’s just a relief,” he said.

But even if most restrictions are lifted, Kentucky citizens should respect the decisions people make to protect their health, said Dr. Steven Stack, Secretary of Public Health, Kentucky.

“People must be tolerant of each other,” he said. “There is no reason to determine who chose to wear a mask.”
