The life of a bear, according to authorities mortally wounded by attacking a man An administrative court in Italy’s Alpine region ruled on Friday that last month’s damage had so far been spared. A brown bear, identified as Jj4, killed Andrea Papi, 26, on a mountain trail, sparking a two-week intensive hunt that took place on April 18, authorities said.
It’s unclear if Jj4 may have attacked Papi in training because there were children nearby. He said his family was against killing bears.
In Friday’s ruling, the city of Trent’s court commission demanded more details about the dynamics of the attack by a 17-year-old female bear, resulting in an injunction by local authorities to order the animal’s euthanasia.
The suspension will last until June 27th. But the bear’s fate may still be decided at that point, as a public hearing is scheduled for Dec. 14 to decide whether the animal rights group’s proposal to transfer the bear to a sanctuary is due. I don’t know where it will go. A place where the animal poses no danger to humans.
Italian news agency ANSA also said the court had concluded that more details from Papi’s autopsy were needed before making any determination on the bear’s fate.
Earlier this month, activists tried to claim the victim’s teeth The perpetrator was proven to be malethe French news agency reported.
The state’s president claims Papi’s death could have been avoided if he had been euthanized after a bear attacked and injured two people in 2020.
Jj4’s parents were brought to Italy from Slovenia 20 years ago as part of a European Union-funded project to boost the brown bear population, which was then threatened with near-extinction. Bear populations increased, and bears encountered more people.
Citing government data, Reuters reported that about 100 wild bears will be spotted in the area in 2021. The local governor said the ideal number is around 50, according to Reuters.
