It wasn’t a teddy bear’s picnic, but it was a surprise to see a bear recently in Marietta.
“I started screaming, I used some colorful words,” said two mothers, Stephanie Charvin.
A young black bear wondered near the Wesley Chapel Road.
“He went that way, but there’s a gate there,” said young Saul Charvin happily at the meeting.
The family said they witness deer on a regular basis, but bears are different.
“We have lived here for 30 years and have never seen a bear in Cobb County,” Stephanie said.
It’s not just the bear watch bump area.
In the last few days, young black bears have been found in Norcross.
The Department of Natural Resources said there is a reason to see some young yogis and boo-boos in metropolitan areas.
Kaitlin Goode, Urban Wildlife Program Manager, Georgia DNR, said:
The metro area is not a stranger to bears.
DNR said they were in the area where they were chasing bears and in most cases allowed them to find their way out of the neighborhood.
But if you decide to stay at the Teddy Bear’s picnic.
“You hit the pot together … to scare the bear,” Stephanie said.
According to DNR, if you are in your area, do not leave food debris. Please put your pet inside. Bears are more afraid of us than we are and usually run through quickly.
