Behind the scenes of the PGA Championship in Tulsa, Oklahoma, hundreds of people have confirmed that more than 50,000 fans, golfers and the media are enjoying this experience.
The Operations Crew has been reviewing the details for the past two years to ensure that this course is ideal for fans and golfers.
Championship Operations Manager Evan Crowder will be busy throughout the championship. He and his team are responsible for building everything within Southern Hills.
“When you enter championship mode, it’s all about extinguishing a small fire,” said Clouder.
The fire he manages is small, thanks to extensive planning over the last two years.
“Now we are in the championship round, so everything is fully enabled and everything is going pretty smoothly.”
But getting here has never been so easy. It included working with 45 national and local vendors. According to Clauder, there are over 350,000 square feet of tents and over 500,000 square feet of floors. In addition, there are more than 20 miles of windshield fences that surround the entire course.
With more than 50,000 spectators, the crew operates nearly 25 shops selling a variety of merchandise, according to Clouder. As for transportation, more than 150 buses are used to take people to Southern Hills.
Clauder also says that the championship is the crescendo of their work, but their next big job is to break down next week’s event. They say their goal is to leave the southern hills as they find them.
