Beijing, the capital of China, began offering booster shots for COVID-19 four months before the city and its surroundings host the Winter Olympics.
State media reported that people over the age of 18 who belonged to a group at risk, including those who vaccinated twice in China and organized and worked in gaming facilities, were eligible.
Boosters have been rolled out nationwide since late September, but Beijing authorities have been particularly cautious about who will receive the additional jabs.
China has been very successful in preventing local infections through strict requirements for mask wearing, quarantine, and contact tracing.
Cases continue to occur, but 28 new cases were reported on Friday.
