According to one of Belgium’s leading virologists, Belgium has identified a case of a new, highly mutated variant of the virus that causes Covid-19.

Marc Vann Ranst, who works with the Lega Medical Institute, said the sample was identified as a new B.1.1.529 variant of a traveler returning from Egypt on November 11. The patient first showed symptoms on 22 November.

Belgium is home to the European Union capital in Brussels.

According to the World Health Organization, this subspecies was first detected in a small sample of South Africa. There were also reports that incidents were found in Israel and Hong Kong on Friday morning.

The B.1.1.529 variant contains 30 mutations to pesplomers that allow the virus to enter the body, scientist Triode riuler Said on thursday During a briefing held by the South African Ministry of Health. The new strain has a total of approximately 50 mutations, including 10 to the portion of the virus that first contacts the cell.

Health officials warn that many of these mutations can lead to increased antibody resistance and limit the efficacy of the Covid vaccine. The World Health Organization convened a meeting on Friday to determine how Covid’s treatment and immunization would be affected by the new mutants.

A new variant arrives in Europe in the already devastating Covid Surge associated with the Delta strain. According to the latest WHO epidemiological update, Europe saw more than 2.4 million new Covid cases in the week ending November 21, an increase of 11% over the last 7 days.

Europe, as measured by WHO, accounted for 67% of all Covid cases reported worldwide during that period.

European Union Government Agency Friday is recommended All 27 member states have stopped traveling from southern Africa. The UK has already suspended flights from six countries in the region, and France and Italy have also imposed temporary travel bans on southern Africa.

This is breaking news. Please check for updates.
