President Joe Biden condemned the treatment of Haitian migrants by border guards in Del Rio, Texas on Friday, calling the actions of agents on horseback “outrageous” and vowed to face the consequences of their actions.

This was the president’s first substantive comment on the situation in Del Rio, where more than 10,000 Haitian immigrants have tried to enter the United States from Mexico since mid-September.
In an interview with ABC’s “The View” on Friday, Vice President Kamala Harris compared the treatment of Haitian immigrants by agents with the oppression of slavery indigenous peoples and African Americans.

“We need results and accountability. Humans should not be treated that way,” said the Vice President in full support of the investigation being conducted by the Department of Homeland Security.

A total of 1,401 Haitians returned to Haiti on a repatriation flight that began on Sunday, leaving less than 5,000 Haitian migrants under the Del Rio bridge.
