President Joe Biden and Virginia Governor Ralph Northam will speak in Alexandria, Virginia on Friday after the state lifts all distance and capacity restrictions. Masks are still required for some settings.
The president and governor will give a speech Friday morning, “celebrating the significant progress Virginia has made in the fight against COVID-19,” Biden’s official schedule said.
As of 12:01 am on Friday, Virginia no longer applies social distance and population limits. The governor planned to lift the restriction in mid-June, but postponed the date by two weeks.
“Virginians are working hard and the results are seen in the number of strong vaccines and the dramatically reduced number of cases,” Northam said in a statement earlier this month. That’s why we can safely advance the timeline to do so. ”
Here’s Virginia’s guidance on masks:
- Unvaccinated people are strongly advised to wear a mask in all situations, as recommended by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
- Employees of regulated businesses, retailers, restaurants, fitness, personal care and entertainment must continue to wear masks until they are fully vaccinated.
- Companies may request masks for their employees and patrons as needed.
- K-12 schools continue to require masks regardless of vaccination status.
