Biden signs a temporary funding bill to prevent the closure of the U.S. government

The US Congress evaded the government’s closure hours before the midnight deadline on September 30, funded it until December 3, and sent action to President Joe Biden’s desk for signature. With 254-175 votes, the House of Representatives voted for another nine weeks on a provisional bill to continue funding the government at its current level.

The bill also provides relief to states such as Louisiana, which have been blamed for natural disasters, as well as assistance to Afghan refugees who have resettled in the United States. A few hours ago, the bill passed the Senate with bipartisan 65-35 votes, according to US media reports.

At the end of the year, US lawmakers will need to decide whether to pass another provisional bill for 2022 or a series of new spending bills.
