Wichita, Kansas (KSNW) — The Lawson Family Asian Big Cat Trek at Sedgwick County Zoo will be open to the public on Wednesday, September 29th. The zoo is open daily from 9am to 5pm.
Big Cat Trek brings all Asian cats together in one exhibit, more than doubling the square foot of the existing Tiger Trek habitat.
The Amur leopard at Sedgwick County Zoo gains more space with expansion.
New snow leopards will be added to the zoo, increasing opportunities for species breeding and population growth.
The zoo Amur tiger is in the same location but will be connected to a new route. Several improvements have been made to the space.
Big Cat Trek is also home to the zoo’s red pandas.
"We are excited to be able to do for leopards what we did for elephants in 2016," says Dr. Jeff Ettling, the Zoo's President and CEO. "This new habitat is roughly ten times as large as the old leopard space, giving us a much better opportunity to participate in leopard conservation."
