Lincoln, Nebraska (AP) — Lincoln Children’s Zoo officials say five large cats have been tested positive for COVID-19.
Zoo officials announced on Wednesday that two Sumatran tigers and three snow leopards were tested after they began to show symptoms of the virus over the weekend. A spokeswoman, Sarah Wood, said in a news release that cats were the first animals infected with the virus at the zoo.
They are being treated with successful plans at other zoos. Mr Wood said it was unclear how the animals were infected. She said the public was not at risk because of the distance between the cat and the zoo visitors. The animals are expected to recover.
