Big Memorial Day plans at Pikes Peak National Cemetery – Colorado Springs, Colorado

Colorado Springs, Colorado 2022-05-28 00:10:23 –

El Paso County — “The most visitors of the year during Memorial Day,” said Pikespeak National Cemetery, director of Skyler Homes. The site, reserved as the last resting place for veterans, welcomes thousands of visitors on Memorial Day weekends. The largest crowd will be on Monday morning, a ceremony commemorating Memorial Day.

More than 3,500 people have been resting since the Pikespeak National Cemetery was dedicated about three and a half years ago.

“We praise them. There is nothing to prevent us from celebrating them,” said an Air Force veteran who was the founder of the cemetery and is now a volunteer Pete Tetley.

That promise was kept by about 50 people during the pandemic at a ceremony a year ago.

Everyone is invited to this anniversary. “At least it’s better to honor the veterans who have been rested,” Tetley said. The organizer plans to have more than 1000 visitors.

The 2022 ceremony on Monday 30th will begin at 10am. Those who plan to attend are advised to arrive early. The capacity of 500 vehicles in the graveyard is expected to fill up. The car will then be instructed to park along East Drennan Road at the entrance to the cemetery. Three golf carts shuttle people in need.
