USA Gymnastics says Simone Biles has decided to withdraw from the finals of the Olympic event on the vault and uneven bars.
She continues to be evaluated daily to determine if she will compete in the floor exercise and balance beam finals.
Biles said she puts mental health first when she withdrew from the gymnastics team’s event after one revolution. An American woman won a silver medal there. She also decided not to compete all-round. American Snisa Lee won the gold medal at the event.
Mikaila Skinner, who scored the fourth highest score in the vault in qualifying, will be in the US vault final alongside Jade Carrie, who finished in the second highest score. Biles was the vault and Olympic defending champion.
