Wichita, Kansas (KSNW) – High school cross-country season regional races take place on Saturday, and these top prizewinners are eligible for state competitions next weekend. Bishop Carroll’s Senior Hope Jackson is eager to beat the state for the third year in a row.

“Now I think I’m more mature. I’ve learned a lot more about sports, running, about myself, what I can handle, and how to increase my pace,” he said. Jackson said when the cross-country preparation career was approaching the finish line.

Jackson used to play soccer, but by the time he entered high school, he was too good at running to earn extra miles.

“She is the ultimate competitor. She doesn’t enjoy doing anything with less effort than best effort,” said Jackson coach Cory Swords. “Sometimes perfection can be your worst enemy, so it was really fun to learn how she navigates it.”

Jackson runs 6-9 miles every day, which is nothing new to her. She won her first state title as a sophomore two years ago. She followed with another title last year. Now she is after Three Pete.

“I couldn’t imagine that. How crazy I’m honest with you,” Jackson said. “I know I’m very proud of myself in 6th grade. It’s fun to look back and think about everything I did.”
