Nashville, Tennessee (WSMV) – The word “Black Lives Matter” is drawn on the roads in Nashville today. This project has been underway for several weeks.
You’ve probably seen similar incidents in other cities after George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis earlier this year.
It goes to Woodland Street next to the Juvenile Court and Nissan Stadium. One of the organizers, John Smith, said he felt it was important to do this given his history at the KKK in Tennessee.
“Nashville went around because the first clan tournament was held here in Nashville at the Maxwell House Hotel in 1867. It’s a more progressive city, a welcoming city, and a wonderful city. , Nashville needs to know that the life of a black man is important, “says Smith.
The painting begins this morning and the organizers say they welcome volunteers to come to help at 1pm.
The organizers also say they have permission to close the street for painting.
