Nashville, Tennessee (WTVF) —This was the first time for Riley Thornton. “I happened to pass by, so I thought I should do it, so I signed up and answered a few questions. I’m here,” he said, donating blood.

He was one of several donors who stopped by Blood Assurance Blood Mobile at Centennial Park on Saturday. The organization provides blood to local hospitals such as the Williamson Medical Center and Tenova Healthcare in Clarksville.

“It’s only a small effort to go a really long way,” Thornton said.

This is because blood guarantee authorities say they are facing a blood shortage, especially if central Tennessee is O-positive or O-negative.

Gerald Antoine, Regional Director of Blood Guarantee, said:

But in the age of COVID, those opportunities are much less common.

“It may seem scary and overwhelming, but it’s not,” Stacy Clark said. She knows directly how important blood donation is. “My dad had so many medical problems that he received blood many times, so it feels good to bring it back into space to another family who may need it. is.”

Blood Assurance typically requires daily donations of 185 O-positive units and 55 O-negative units to meet the demands of Nashville.

“The other day, I had 19 units of O-positive blood on the shelf and I was in a very critical situation. In the event of a trauma or accident, I immediately put that blood on the shelf.”

Still, Saturday’s mobile blood drive collected 18 units and saved at least 54 lives.

“It can help neighbors, it can help families, it can help friends, but most importantly, it helps those who need blood to save their lives. I can help, “said Antoine.

As an incentive, Blood Assurance also presents a $ 20 Amazon Gift Card to those who donate O-positive or O-negative blood.
