Honolulu (KHON2) — The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) rushed to the scene after warning the sailors of suffering by calling 9-1-1.
I got a call around 6:11 pm on Monday. Five HFD units with 16 staff responded. Marine safety and lifeguards could also be seen reacting to the crew of the rescue vessel.
The boat was recovered, towed and returned to the shore, securing all crew. No injuries have been reported at this time.
The cause of the distress signal is unknown.
The fire department encourages boaters to follow these safety tips:
- Check your boat’s engine and equipment before you leave.
- Always keep anchors, additional fuel, warm clothing and flares on board.
- It brings two practical forms of communication. Store your mobile phone in a waterproof container.
