Moose, Wyoming — According to authorities, the body found on Sunday in Wyoming is believed to be Gabriel “Gabby” Petit.
According to the FBI, the body was found by law enforcement agencies that had been searching the campsite for the past two days.
FBI special agent Charles Jones said the cause of death has not yet been identified.
“We haven’t completed a complete forensic identification to 100% confirm that we’ve found Gabby, but her family has been notified,” Jones said. “This is a very difficult time for (Petite’s) family and friends.”
I couldn’t immediately ask for comment from a lawyer who had been a spokesman for the Petito family.
The undeveloped campsite on the eastern side of Grand Teton, adjacent to the national forest, will remain closed for the duration of the investigation until further notice, Jones said.
According to Jones, investigators have seen petite and laundry around several campgrounds on the eastern border of Grand Teton National Park, the same location that was investigated by law enforcement agencies over the weekend. He says he is still seeking information from someone.
Petito and her boyfriend Brian Laundrie went on a cross-country trek in a modified van in July to visit a national park in the western United States. Police said Laundry was alone when he drove the van back to his parents’ home in Northport, Florida, on September 1.
Laundry has been identified as involved in the case. He was last seen by a Florida family on Tuesday.
On Sunday, more than 50 law enforcement officers began their second day searching for laundry in more than 24,000 acres (9,712 hectares) of Carlton Reserve in Sarasota County, Florida. This reserve is a wildlife area with more than 100 miles (160 km) of trails. , And the campsite.
Laundrie and Petito, 22, set out on a cross-country trek in a remodeled van in July and visited a national park in the western United States.
Petito’s family filed a missing person report with police in Suffolk County, New York on September 11.
Petito’s family begged Laundrie’s family to tell them where their son last met her. Petito and Laundrie were childhood lovers they met when they grew up in Long Island, New York. His parents later moved to Northport, about 35 miles (55 kilometers) south of Sarasota.
The couple’s trek in the Ford Transit Van began in July on Long Island. According to social media accounts, they were due to arrive in Oregon by the end of October, but Petito disappeared after the last contact with his family from Grand Teton National Park in late August.
The Denver FBI said on Saturday that agents had conducted a ground survey in Grand Teton National Park with the help of the National Park Service and local law enforcement agencies, seeking clues to Petit’s disappearance.
FBI agents tweeted that they are focusing on an undeveloped campsite near Spread Creek on the eastern border of the park, which was not open to the public during the investigation. They were there between August 27th and 30th and urged anyone who saw Petit, Laundry, or their car to contact them.
