Riverside, California 2021-10-20 13:06:25 –

Evacuation shelters in place were immediately lifted everywhere else, allowing Gates 1 and 3 to be open to outbound traffic only.

Bethesda, Maryland — Navy support official Bethesda (NSAB) said Wednesday morning that the threat urged the establishment of shelters for base personnel.

As of 1:00 pm, Walter Reed Bethesda still has a shelter installed. However, the NSAB commander immediately lifted shelters everywhere else, allowed gates 1 and 3 to open, and allowed only outbound routes.

The installed Walter Reed Bethesda Shelter was lifted on a building-by-building basis, and NSAB confirmed it on Twitter. People inside need to wait for further explanation.

The general public is urged to avoid the area while the investigation continues.

At around 8:45 am, the facility received a call from an anonymous source saying there was a bomb in or near Building 10. Security guards responded to the Bethesda 102 Woodroad site.

In a tweet, Navy support activity Bethesda said it was investigating the threat of bombs and the threat of active shooters. Later, the naval base said there were no signs of active shooters on the premises, but the threat of the bomb was still under investigation.

Navy Support Operations All Bethesda gates were initially closed for non-urgent traffic.
