ENGLEWOOD-Bradley Chubb tried rest and rehab on his right ankle and improved enough to make his debut last Sunday.
It lasted 19 plays, with Chub slamming his hand on the grass and throwing his helmet at the sideline with disgust. The episode and subsequent conversations brought new plans.
After discussing with trainers, doctors and renowned foot expert Robert Anderson, Chub revealed on Wednesday morning that he would remove the ankle osteophytes.
His return schedule will not materialize until the surgery is over.
Chubb is determined to play when cleared this season, but it can take weeks or months.
In an interview the team released on Twitter, Mr. Chub said, “It would be very frustrating not to be there, but I will push as much as I can to get back to these games.
“My idea is to attack 100% every day. When this heals, I think you’ll see a whole new Bradley Chubb, a whole new animal, a whole new dog. 2018 feels like me. Yes, I was healthy last year. When I’m done with this, it’s going to be ten times that, and I’m really excited to see it go through completely. “
Chub made his first Pro Bowl last season and posted the best 12 sack of his career as a rookie in 2018. It was the last full season we played together because Chub and Von Miller were injured. Chub explained what happened on Sunday, which led to his new course of action.
During the Jaguars’ two-minute drill in the first half, Chub tried to turn a corner with a pass rush, but then went downhill.
“I’ve been dealing with osteophytes in my ankles. It feels like a stinging pain,” Chub said. “I did everything to manage it. I tried everything to get back in the field. Now it’s time to clean it up and come back soon.”
In May, Chub was treated to remove the osteophytes on his left ankle before the training camp, and the team returned him to the fold. The osteophyte of the right ankle surfaced in the final week of August and began to annoy him even more after the Rams match, missing the opening round.
Chub changed course because of rest and limited personnel not working.
Surgery is expected to relieve pain, but it will take some time for Chub to regain conditioning. Chubb clearly feels the team is turning the corner and wants to be healthy and influential this season.
“This team is special. I want to be something special,” Chub told the team’s website. “We haven’t been in the line of victory in the last few years, and it feels like we’re starting to change that.”
