Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade wins historic vault gold medal, American skinner wins silver medal | Tokyo Olympics 2020

Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade has added a gold medal to the vault to go with the silver she won all-round.

Andrade put together a pair of soaring vaults and posted an average of 15.083. Andrade’s medal in Tokyo is Brazil’s first and second in the gymnastics of the tournament.

American Mikaila Skinner, who entered the competition after defending Olympic champion Simone Biles, was pulled out to focus on her mental health and won silver. This 24-year-old player was a replacement player for the 2016 US Olympic team. After spending three years at the University of Utah, he returned to the elite competition in 2019.

South Korea’s Yeo Seo-jeong got the bronze.

Last Sunday, Archomdolgo Piat won Israel’s first Olympic medal in artistic gymnastics. Dolgopyat won gold in a men’s floor exercise by edging Spain’s Rayderley Zapata in a tiebreaker.

Dolgopyat and Zapata both scored 14.933 in the finals of the event. They both had matching execution scores during their routine. Dolgopyat won gold because his set was a bit more difficult than Zapata’s set.

China’s Xiao Ruoteng won the bronze medal by winning the third medal in Tokyo. Xiao won a silver medal and a bronze medal in the men’s allround at last week’s team event.

The gold medal is Israel’s second medal at any Olympic event. Gal Fridman won the gold medal on the men’s sailboard at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
