Milwaukee Brewers pitching staff will try to cool the Braves slugger Austin Riley in a three-game weekend series starting Friday in Atlanta.

Riley won the Braves home run 6-3 and 3 RBIs 2-4 on Thursday, beating the New York Mets 6-3. He has returned home six times in the last seven games and has the best 21 long balls of his career in the year.

Riley extended his consecutive hits to eight games. In the meantime, he scored 9 long hits and 13 RBIs, 14 to 32 (.438). He ran 10 runs in a 5-game series in New York.

“I’m glad,” Riley saddened. “My swing feels great right now. I’ll hone my approach and keep going.”

Milwaukee has won five of the last six games and is leading the National League Central in seven games. Brewers won 12-0 on Thursday night, sweeping the three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Braves, who returns home after a 5-4 road trip, will follow Mets, who is number one in four games in the NL East.

The Braves and Brewers met in mid-May, and Atlanta won two out of three in Milwaukee.

“We’re in four games … there’s struggle and ups and downs, and we’re right there,” said Atlanta manager Brian Snitker. “If we can survive the storm next week or two, we’ll get some guys back. We’re hanging there.”

This series features two of the top baseball pitching staff. Milwaukee has the highest ERA in the majors since the All-Star Break 2.05, while Atlanta has the second highest ERA of 3.00.

The starting pitchers for the series openers are Milwaukee’s Corbin Burnes (6-4, 2.12 ERA) and Atlanta’s Touki Tuisan (1-1, 1.32).

Burns, who became the first All-Star this year, defeated the Chicago White Sox on a recent expedition, making one run in six innings on Saturday and winning 6-1. In his last nine starts, he is 4-0 and ERA is 1.94.

Burns has made three career appearances against the Braves, and he’s all relieved. He allowed nine runs in 22/3 innings while on the go, but won.

Toussaint will make his third start of the season since being activated from the 60-day injured list after recovering from tension in his right shoulder. He allowed one run in 62/3 innings on his 2021 debut against the San Diego Padres, instigating 10 against the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday, bringing one run in seven innings.

Toussaint has played twice against Brewers in his career. Both came out of the bullpen and recorded 7.71 ERA in 21/3 innings.

Brewers is working on the issue of COVID-19. Outfielder Christian Yelich will be on the COVID list on Tuesday and will be an outfielder for at least 10 days. Utility player Jace Peterson has also been sent off for contact tracing.

Extra-base infielder Eduardo Escobar will join Brewers this weekend after being acquired in a deal from Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday. He has 22 home runs and a .478 slugging percentage this year.

“We’re aiming for a big attack, and we’ll probably have to hit a little more home runs to get a big attack,” said Craig Counsell, Milwaukee’s manager. “It can happen. Hitting some home runs is the way you put big numbers there.”

Brewers had a lot of big numbers in Pittsburgh, outperforming Pirates 28-3 in three games. In the series finale, Manny Piña hit two home runs, five home runs, Louditeres went deeper, and Willy Adames, Tyrone Taylor, Pina, and Teres each hit three home runs.
