Las Vegas, Nevada 2020-09-16 09:07:52 –

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Studies show violence, oppression, and police brutality has impacted the Black community at a disproportionate rate when compared to other ethnic groups in the United States.

One way that Black people have learned to fight back is by coming
together and using one single voice to demand change.

A protest is a “statement or action expressing disapproval of or objection to something.”

Throughout history, protest have shaped America in tremendous ways.

America remains a country divided.

Even decades after the Civil Rights movement, many Black people still feel shackled by their skin color.

As the 20th century drew to a close, violence, oppression and police brutality affected Black communities disproportionately.

Deep holes in the criminal justice system left Black people feeling unprotected and unheard.

The death of Trayvon martin would soon lead to something much bigger for the Black community and all of America.

In part two of The Power of Protest, we will explore how Martin’s death led to a larger movement and call for change among police.
