Chris Jordinelli, a besieged Brighton city council member who is under investigation from the city in an exchange with police on suspicion of a drunk driving incident last summer, resigned on Friday.

The city said in a news release that the city council would decide the next step to fill the seats in Jordinelli’s third district, which he has held since January 2020.

All Jordinelli colleagues on the council Voted last week to hire a special counsel To investigate a statement he allegedly made to the police after a police officer said he went to his house to ask him about driving drunk at a parliamentary meeting on August 17.

according to Police reports obtained by The Denver Post this week, Jordinelli asked the officer if he knew who he was. The report states that after confirming that he was a city council member, he told police officers, “You don’t want to ruin me.”

A city memo attached to the November 22 meeting, where the investigation was approved by a unanimous vote of the council, states, with the exception of Jordinelli: “

“Attempting to use the position of the city council for personal gain or benefit may be considered a violation of the city’s code of ethics,” the memo said.
