Bring out your wild side in the Wichita area – Wichita, Kansas

Wichita, Kansas 2021-07-07 07:00:00 –

Wichita, KSN-While visiting Wichita may seem tame, there are many ways to get wild this summer.

The first stop is Sedgwick County Zoo.

Public Relations Assistant Joseph Pepoon said there is much to see about more than 400 species.

“We are the largest outdoor attraction in Kansas,” said Pepoon. “You can also talk to the keeper and build that bond.”

Pepun said there are many new things to see as the zoo celebrates its 50th anniversary.

“We have just announced the opening of a new entry complex,” Pepoon said. “There is a new gift shop and a zoo entrance with a ticket office and a membership office.”

Pepoon said it will add two new leopard exhibits and a snow leopard exhibit. He said people will come back because you have connections with animals and some animals remember guests!

“Animals definitely remember the people and regulars who always come, especially the apes,” he said.

Tickets are free for children under 2 years old. Children aged 3 to 11 will cost $ 15. $ 20 for 11+. Learn more about.

The next stop will take the explorer outside the boundaries of the city of Wichita. Interacting with animals may seem like a tale, but you can do it at the Tanganyika Wildlife Park.

Park director Matt Fouts said he could hang right next to the animal.

“Tanganyika is the most interactive zoo in the Midwest,” says Fouts. “It’s one of the only places in the United States where you can actually go to the island. Lemurs come and sit on your lap and feed them.”

Fouts said he could meet and feed animals such as giraffes, sloths and lemurs. You can also swim with the penguins.

Tickets and all the details for planning a trip to Tanganyika can be found here.
