A recommendation for brown water was issued this afternoon by the State Department’s Clean Waters branch to warn the public to stay away from the ocean in Waimea Bay on Oahu.
According to the advisory, the effects of violent waves are causing debris and potentially harmful pollutants such as pesticides, animal feces, dead animals, pathogens and chemicals to flow into coastal waters.
He added that “if the water is brown, it is off limits,” although not all coastal areas are affected by the spill.
