Corpus Christi, Texas — As the usual annual event reaches its final day, KRIS 6 News, as well as visitors and locals, talked about what the resurrection of Buc Days means to them.
“It’s just (for people) going out and doing something different,” said Brent Chase. “I think people need to feel that they are still safe and able to get out and do something. Return to normal life.”
These feelings were also shared by teens Jabari Ayala and Me Gonzales. They were just friends and definitely didn’t date. The two were rethinking about riding one of the many scary rides of the Carnival.
“That’s a complete difference,” Ayala said. “I’m happy to be able to bring things home and not be trapped in my house. It’s good to see everything come back slowly but surely.”
And for grandfather and granddaughter duo Sonny and almost three-year-old Olivia Vela, it was just a perfect Friday.
“We love being here at the BucDays Carnival. We took her on a pony to stroke the animals, and she just loved it,” Sony said. And added that this was his first time at the carnival of his granddaughter. “I don’t think last year was a good year anyway,” she would have been a little too young. Now she is really old enough to enjoy it. “
These “normal” moments also occur when the Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District also has vaccination tents installed at both entrances.
Since May 30, the Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District has given at least 235 initial doses during the carnival. Vaccinated people can enter for free.
“When we educated them on the answer, they made it much easier to ask for a vaccine,” said public health supervisor Isidro Prado on publicizing the health district. “There’s always skepticism, but I think we’re past that skepticism and now it’s basically available to people.”
These vaccination sites are open Sundays from 11am to 4pm.
Announced by Miller Lite, Buc Days Rodeo begins Thursday and continues through the weekend, including events such as HEB Mutton Bustin’Mania and Whataburger’s Stick Horse Barrel Racing. See BucDays for more information. website.
