The first funeral of one of the ten people killed in a racist attack in New York last weekend will take place on Friday.
Butler Hayward Patterson is set aside to rest. He is remembered as his beloved son, brother, and above all, a loving father. More funerals will be held in the coming days.
“The city was shocked … full of anger, sadness and pain. But people are gathering. Buffalo is known as a city of good neighbors at home and abroad, and we are the victims of these. I turned my arm around my family. It was this racially motivated mass shooting. ”
“We are close to each other, hugging each other and continuing to grow as a community. Buffalo is strong. We are sad, but we will overcome this,” the mayor added.
The FBI says it plans to complete the evidence gathering in the supermarket and prosecute the shooting as a hate crime.
“Law enforcement agencies at all levels, including federal law enforcement agencies, states, Buffalo police, and Sheriff Erie County, have done a great job,” Brown said. “Evidence gathering ended at the tops supermarket in the supermarket, which is good because it gives tops the opportunity to resume the work needed to reopen the market as soon as possible.”
Mayor Brown also said he had spoken to President Joe Biden about wise gun control laws, “spreading hatred through social media,” and “education of white supremacists.”
