Randy Mast couldn’t find the chicken wings sauce his wife had longed for, so he decided to make it himself.

This was in the late 1970s, before the introduction of the Buffalo Wing.

And his wife really missed the chicken wings sauce in her hometown of New York, Buffalo.

So Mast burned the stove in the Donaldsonville kitchen and started cooking.

“The Buffalo Wing was (at that time) only known in western New York,” he said. “My wife wanted wings, so I said,’I’m not driving to Buffalo.’ We lived in the Baton Rouge area, so we started experimenting with ideas and came up with our favorite sauces, but one day we wrote them all down and kept them. 40 years. ”

Mast and his son Randy turned the recipe into a company. Buffalo South is a New York Buffalo-flavored gourmet sauce with a touch of southern Louisiana.

“I came to Louisiana for the first time and learned about Southern cuisine and different flavors,” Randy Mast said. “And it’s a blend of several different pepper sauces. Bet-R Neighborhood Market purchased the first two cases of Buffalo South Source in September 2019.

“Bet-R employs people in need of special needs,” Randy Mast said. “This made a lot of sense to us.”

Ryan Mast said he hopes that percentage will increase as future distribution and sales expand.
