Building bunk-beds and confidence – Colorado Springs, Colorado

Colorado Springs, Colorado 2021-10-16 18:01:20 –

Colorado Springs — Love Your Neighbor is a local non-profit organization that builds bunk beds for foster children in southern Colorado.

Founder Luke Wrobleski found it a great idea for students to participate in the project.

“We want to give them the opportunity to enter a wooden store that many kids don’t have today,” Wrobleski said.

Wrobleski has launched a woodworking instruction program for Pikes Peak Academy students.

Every Thursday, students come to the woodworking shop to learn, create, and of course make!

The first project of the year was a bunk bed, followed by a student-chosen project.

Many students work at the store for the first time, but many are confident.

Justins Caggs, a student at Pikes Peak Academy, said:

Each mentor individually guides, teaches, and builds ties with students.

“When they first came, they were a little shy and didn’t want to make eye contact. And by the end of the class we were jokingly enjoying the time, so it was the duration of the class. Growing together through, “Wrobleski said.

“They support me all the time and give me confidence,” Skaggs said.
