South Lake Tahoe, California (AP) — Injured bear cubs rescued after being burned by a wildfire in California are being bred at the Lake Tahoe Wildlife Center.

Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care officials named the young male bear “Tamarak” after the fire that burned from Sierra south of the lake to Nevada.

The center’s animal welfare officer says the turnip was about six months old and was walking on his elbow due to a burn on his leg.

The vet wrapped his leg and gave him painkillers.

Authorities said they were working to get skin treatments that would speed healing.

The center will probably keep a bear during the winter and release him in the spring.
