Nashville, Tennessee — The missing 7-year-old boy is safe after discovering a school bus driver in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System walking down the road.

Stephanie Drich has just dropped 11 children on a regular route in the district. On Thursday morning, she noticed a post about the missing child on the Clarksville police social media page.

She remembered the child’s face and name and began looking for him on her way along her route in the area where the child was missing.

On her way home, she saw a child walking along a side street and turned the bus for investigation.

“The child didn’t say anything,” Drich said. “I pulled the bus and opened the door. He stopped and he looked at me and said,’Are you?’. I said his name. He looked at me and laid his neck. I just shook it. That’s right. I said, “Hi Buddy, why don’t you come here and sit down?”

Bus aid wrapped the boy in a blanket, and Drich dispatched him wirelessly. They sent an agent to pick up the boy. He reunited with his family.

“It impressed me,” Drich said. “It reminded me of some of my young students … I felt I needed to find him, and I did. So I just knew he was at home. I’m happy. “

Drich was honored by DOE Commissioner Penny Schwinn on Friday. She said Dollich is an example of the efforts that all state education staff and faculty have spent on behalf of their children.

“She’s the best and the best in terms of the examples she’s setting up for everyone,” Schwinn said.
