Reseda, CA (KCBS) – A family in California is frightened to find a rope hanging in the garden.
“I was in a panic. I thought they knew where I lived. They know we are black,” said a woman who didn’t want to be identified. Told. She said the family found a rope hanging from a tree in the backyard of their Reseda family.
Her grandfather was particularly upset by the discovery of the racist symbol. “At my age, I experienced a bit of that era. I was very impressed when I was a kid,” he said.
The family believes that someone cut a fence in the backyard late Tuesday night, sneaked into their property and tied a rope to a tree. They said nothing like this happened during the 30 years they lived there.
When asked why they were targeted, the family said they believed it might be related to the conviction in the Derek Chauvin trial. “Currently, the climate is racist, but it also gives racists an incentive to come and do this,” the woman said.
A Los Angeles Police Department police officer was called in. They are territorial and investigating the case as a hate crime.
The family said they plan to install security cameras in the backyard and cut down trees. The family was upset, but said that this act of hatred did not allow them to weaken their psyche. “I love everyone, we are all the same, we are all together,” said my grandfather.
