Los Angeles-California, which has some of the country’s toughest masks and vaccination obligations, has improved to a “moderate” infection rate for COVID-19.latest CDC data.

California also has the lowest mortality rate in the country from COVID-19, with 0.2 deaths per 100,000 reported in the last 7 days. As the most populous state, California has reported more than 70,000 deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic.

According to the CDC, 44 states and US territories have remained at “high” levels of infection, averaging a decline in case rates over the past seven days.

There are eight states and territories at the “substantial” level. At the “medium” level, there is one state in California and two regions in Puerto Rico and the Northern Mariana Islands.

Within California, there is also an improvement in COVID case rates in Southern California counties.

All five Southern California counties (Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, Riverside, and San Bernardino) have improved from “high” to “substantial” infection levels.

Some Central and Bay Area counties, such as Monterey, Alameda, Marin and San Mateo, were even lower and reached “moderate” levels.

According to CDC data, California has an average of 34.4 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population. About a month ago, the state reported 95 cases per 100,000 cases.

In contrast, all other states west of the Mississippi River average well over 100 per 100,000. In some areas such as Idaho, Montana and North Dakota, the average is well over 400 per 100,000.

The CDC defines “moderate” (coded yellow on the data map) as 10 to 50 new cases per 100,000 people in the last 7 days.

“Substantial” (or orange) is defined as 50-100 cases, and “high” or red is defined as more than 100 cases.
