EL DORADO, Kan. (KSNW) — On Memorial Day weekend, many families head out to the nearest lake for rest and relaxation.
At El Dorado State Park, everyone is finding their own way to have a good time this weekend. Park officials said a huge crowd was expected, and even during last year’s COVID-19 pandemic, there was a record crowd on Memorial Day weekend.
“With the epidemic of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), we really didn’t know what to expect, and in the end we had a very fulfilling year.” Park manager Seth Turner said.
One of the campers, Colin Grimes, said of last year’s camp in El Dorado: I didn’t do anything other than camping. “
The recent rain caused some trouble for the staff: “This week, people, including myself, mowed the lawn in the rain and tried to reach an acceptable height,” Turner explained.
And the rainy and chilly Lake El Dorado became even colder.
“It gets colder because it rains down like it does today,” Turner said. “I think this cold air, especially this cold air today, and this morning it’s pretty chilly.”
However, this Memorial Day weekend did not leave as many as 70,000 visitors away from Lake El Dorado.
“The staff has done a lot of work, and we look forward to people enjoying their holiday weekends here,” Turner added.
