One of those families is Pelsons, a close family of six from Grants Pass. When Anna Grace Pelson was diagnosed with cancer in February 2020, it was a big blow.

It turns out that these bedside buddies came from Candlelighters. But nonprofits didn’t stop there. The Southern Oregon branch chief contacted the Personne family to take care of everyone, down to frequent expeditions to OHSU.
“She was also weekly, so we congratulated us with these gas cards to reach the chemicals — 5 days and 5 nights, we went home for two days and looked back.” Said Karissa.
Candlewriter also introduced the personne to other families with childhood cancer. They say this is a lifeline.
“Meeting other family members was very special for us all to get to know the people in the hospital,” Carissa said. “All the other people in the candle lighter.”
