Corpus Christi, Texas — A local company is hosting a special event this weekend to show its appreciation to its customers.
2702 Dunbar St. Carniceria Hidalgo is known for its meat such as Barbacoa and Chicharron. Besides the meat platter, this business is also known to the family.
Alberto Padron took over Carniceria Hidalgo after his father lost the fight against cancer in 2019. His father had been in business for nearly 23 years.
Padron tells KRIS 6 News that he understands how important it is to keep things going in the time he spends running his business.
He said it was that his father fought so hard to do.
“He did it until he couldn’t,” Padron said. “He couldn’t do much, you know what I mean. He was tired and he was receiving radiation.”
Chemotherapy and radiation have hit his father, who was often tired, according to Padron. At that time, families like mothers and aunts set foot to help.
According to Padron, the loss of his father really affected their business, and when a pandemic broke out, it was also sacrificed.
“The restaurant slowed down and closed,” Padron said. “So we are catering to the restaurant, so when they closed, we couldn’t move the meat, which affected.”
He said their food and family atmosphere were what kept things going.
“Family is everything,” Padron said. “Family is always first. That’s what my dad always pushed. Weekends are always for my family.”
This weekend, Carniceria Hidalgo is hosting customer appreciation and the release of murals. From noon to 5 pm on Sunday, May 2nd.
The community is invited to stop by and get free food. Some livestock can be enjoyed by children.
