Theft costs $ 70,000
Ore, Fairview (KOIN) — Approximately 20 school buses from the Reynolds School District became unavailable after a criminal stole a catalytic converter.
When the driver started the bus on Monday morning, he heard the unmistakable sound of no catalytic converter. They confirmed that 19 buses and 3 fleet vehicles were shutting off the catalytic converter.
District transportation leaders quickly reassigned routes on Monday with some additional buses. However, the theft of the catalytic converter caused $ 70,000 in damage. Replacement parts will take several months due to the ongoing shortage of parts due to the pandemic.
The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office is considering surveillance footage, but has not yet released it to the public.
The section where the bus stopped is fenced and gated.
KOIN 6 News will get more information as it develops.
