CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Explosion at substation in Puerto Rico knocks out power across the island | St. Louis News Headlines – St. Louis, Missouri

St. Louis, Missouri 2021-06-11 10:16:00 –

(Meredith)-A transformer fire at a substation in Puerto Rico lost power to the entire island.

Utility company Luma Energy said it is working to restore the system and work will continue overnight.

The Governor of Puerto Rico called it an explosion and said state and federal law enforcement officials were investigating the cause.

Luma Energy said it was hit by a cyberattack earlier in the day.

This was a “distributed denial of service” attack that intentionally hit the site with heavy web traffic and tried to overwhelm the site.

There is no immediate indication that there is a link between a website attack and a substation incident.
