Las Vegas (KLAS) — Dr. Jesus Jara, director of the Clark County School District, issued a statement on Friday night about his future in the school district, months after tensions with the Board of Education councilors.
In his statement, he announced that he would return on Monday, December 6th as acting director.
His full statement is as follows:
This afternoon I reached an agreement with a majority of the board on the best path for 305,000 students in Clark County, and on Monday, December 6th I will return to serving our community as a director. ..
Over the last five weeks, there has been too much adult-centric attention, rather than focusing on the 305,000 students we are here to serve. My team continued to lead the fifth largest district in the United States through the catastrophic learning turmoil associated with pandemics and the challenge of student mental health, so there was too much adult-centric distraction for students. , Parents, and our team. It is unacceptable. And now is the time to move forward.
When I got this job three and a half years ago, I devoted myself to students and families in the area and over the last three and a half years have been working on creating true solutions to some of our biggest challenges. rice field. Above all, staff shortages, mental health, impartiality, and a safe return to face-to-face learning. I am proud of the work that our team has led our systems and students through one of the greatest disruptions to learning and well-being that no one of us has ever faced. And my work here isn’t over yet.
There are too many children left behind in this community. I will not leave them. As an immigrant, as a child who worked to get out of poverty through education, and as a parent, I understand what is at stake for all the children we serve. So, starting Monday, at this important moment, we will continue to work day and night to refocus on student safety, mental health, and unfinished learning. These are our core priorities.
Dr. Jesus Jara, CCSD School Director
Dr. Jara’s presentation came after weeks of tense discussions among members of the school board.
At the end of October, the trustee voted 4 to 3 to terminate the contract for convenience. So I didn’t have to explain why.
Initially, Jara’s final date was set to December 1, but the trustee abandoned the vote in mid-November to terminate his contract.
The CCSD Board of Education’s Board of Education also issued a statement on Friday evening that it had reached an agreement with Dr. Jara on the latest developments. The complete statement is shown below.
The School Council of Clark County School District has reached an agreement with Dr. Jesus F. Jara to continue supervision. While the first steps in this process are complete, we will continue to strive for a more collaborative, respectful and collaborative board-supervisory relationship. Through our role as a trustee, we move forward by refocusing our attention on students and their academic performance in the area.
